As the sixth child of seven children born and raised in Bastrop, Texas, thirty miles southeast of Austin, my Mother took care of the household and the children while my Dad and his brothers farmed our land. Mother was very good at cooking, canning and storing food for the winter months. We enjoyed a variety of fresh vegetables and meat daily. When time permitted, our Father would fish, hunt deer and wild game in the winter.
A lot of time and energy was spent on meals to feed the family. We would grind the venison while my Father carefully seasoned each batch and stuffed it into casings to make sausage links. When the sugar cane was cut in the summer my Father walked the Mule around the syrup mill to squeeze the juice from the cane and cook it into molasses. Most of our summers were spent shucking corn, shelling peas, peeling pears, peaches and picking grapes. We spent most our family time preparing food to nourish our bodies throughout the year. When we were growing up, your work involved preparing food, clothing, and shelter to survive. We always had plenty to share with others. While Mother canned jellies and preserves, our Father made the molasses that we enjoyed all year long.
Our Mother and Father were both passionate about planting seeds and watching them grow as they watched their children grow. Growing food was as much a part of their lives as cooking what they grew with just the right spices. I watched my Mother spend hours and hours in the kitchen preparing our meals with passion and pride added to everything meal she cooked. Every meal was prepared with a lot of love and a little seasoning to enhance the taste to perfection. Her simple taste test could determine if additional seasoning was needed.
Employed fulltime; I am a wife, mother, gardener and homemaker. I prepare our meals with the same passion and enthusiasm as my mother. Those memories and my love for cooking have inspired me to prepare a special seasoning mixture I would like to share with others. With just the right mix of ingredients I created a short cut for those busy active working Mothers or Fathers who would like to add that loving touch to the meals they prepare for their families. Years ago, I realized that when my meals are tasty my family is satisfied and I am happy to satisfy them. In the words of my son “Mama you will never have to worry about me running away from home, because I would miss your cooking”.
With each batch of seasoning I strive for consistency and perfection, to allow you to capture the taste you are looking for in a home cooked meal. “CW Seasoning, We Make Cooking Easy!”
